From the first pitch the tone was set. Soon thereafter, the Marlins were on their way to a blowout victory over the Nationals.
Cody Ross open the game with a leadoff of home-run, Dan Uggla continued to thrive in the middle of the order as he hit his first career grand slam and veteran Wes Helms, who is filling in for the injured Mike Jacobs, also homered.
Thanks to the run support, Andrew Miller breezed along, as he logged his third straight decision, and the Marlins were able to capture an 11-0 victory over the Nationals on Saturday Night,
Along with a season-high six-game winning streak, the fish have also improved to 7-1 on the season againts the Nationals.
Ross, who now has a total of nine at-bats in the leadoff spot gave the fish an early advantage, blasting Mike O'Connor's opening pitch over the left-field wall. The homer back Ross marked the fourth leadoff homer of the season, with the other three coming from the richest Florida Marlin on the 2008 roster Hanley Ramirez.
In the fourth inning the Marlins scored seven runs to break the game wide open. Helms started it off with a homer, and shortly after the Nats starter was replaced by Joel Hanrahan, Dan Uggla launched a moonshot to left for a grand slam. Mike Jacobs is the only other Marlin hitter to hit a granny on the season, which came on April 5 against the Pirates.
Luis Gonzalez once again doubled in the seventh. Gonzalez now has 575 doubles on his career, which puts him in sole possesion on the all-time list in that category.
Andrew Miller pitched a season-high seven innings, giving up only two hits and striking out seven. He also throw a career high 103 pitches of which 61 went for strikes.
Up Next: The finale of this series will feature Marlins ace Scott Olsen, who has a 4-1 record on the season with an ERA of 2.22-- Olsen, went 8 2/3 innings in his last start against the Brewers on May 6th before being pulled out of the game and replaced by Kevin Gregg who got the save.
Shawn Hill will take the mound for the Nationals-- He has yet to log a decision in his first four starts. Hill currently has an ERA of 3.86
